Quick Start Guide (v4)

Entering Competitions with BRS/Golf Genius

Background: In 2023, the suppliers of our current software systems advised the Club that they will be withdrawing maintenance and support services.  After thoroughly reviewing our options, the Club is introducing two new integrated software systems supplied by BRS and Golf Genius to manage all our competitions and administrative processes.

“Go Live” Date: The planned Go Live date for Competitions is early September, Until then, our current system will remain the official system for scoring competitions.  We will be holding trials of the new procedures throughout August. It is highly recommended that you try the new mobile scoring app before then.

Booking into the BRS Competition Time Sheet

Firstly, download two apps onto your phone: BRS Golf app and BRS Golf Scoring app.

New bookings (and withdrawals) can be made until 4.00am on the day of the competition.  To book into a competition:

1.       Open the BRS Golf app, login, select a date/time and enter the players names.

a.       Your Username is the last 4 digits of your Golflink number ie dddd (excluding leading zeros)

b.       Your Password is Strath followed by the same digits eg  Strathdddd.  (You are able to change this password once you login in).

c.       Eg Golflink number 3030400456 Username 456  Password is Strath456

(Alternatively, you can login (or reset your password) at the website https://members.brsgolf.com/strathallan/login )

2.       Select the option on the BLUE bar labelled “BOOK A TEE TIME

3.       Select the tee time and enter you name (plus playing partners)

                                         "GOLF EVENTS & H.I."

 3.      Check in to the competition

4..       Select the player who you will mark

5.       Enter scores for the player you are marking and your score (called markers notes)

6.       You can see your progressive scores at any time by selecting “Results”

7.       Correct any inconsistencies shown in yellow

Comp fees and prizes: The new system will adopt a Competition Purse: ie Competition fees will be debited and $ prizes will be credited to your purse, rather than balls.  Current ball credits will be transferred.

Resources

Tips: For your first trial, you will find it easier to use a card and enter the scores into the app back in the clubhouse, where assistance is available.  We also suggest you have a fully charged phone and carry a blank scorecard as a backup. A phone cradle on your buggy handle will also help.

Training and support will be available in the Clubhouse beginning the second and third weeks of August. Check the Clubhouse noticeboard for details and how to participate.

FAQs and Training Notes will be published on the Club’s website and updated as we learn more.

FAQs  (v2)

When do I use BRS Golf and BRS Golf Scoring apps:

You will only use the BRS Golf app, which auto-loads the BRS Golf Scoring app when required.

Explain BRS Golf and BRS Golf Scoring apps.

You need both apps on your phone.  You only ever load BRS Golf to book into a tee time or to enter your scores.  BRS Golf autoloads BRS Golf Scoring app when it is required.  (I agree it would be better to have them combined in one app).

What happens if my phone “dies”?

The easiest way is to continue to keep scores on a spare scorecard as you normally do. When you get back to the clubhouse you can enter both sets of scores on a tablet/computer provided for this purpose.  Or you could recharge your phone.

Alternatively, ask your player colleagues to exit and restart the app, then re-assign markers.  Keep a record of your personal scores on a score card (or piece of paper).

Can I re-assign markers if a player retires?

Yes .  Exit the Event.  Re-enter and choose the new marker.  The scores entered by the previous marker will be carried across to the new marker.

“Official Scores”

are your scores entered by the Marker. They must be certified by you as the Player at the end of the round.

“Markers Notes”

eg “Tony’s Notes  are the scores that the Tony has entered for himself. They will be compared with the Official Scores entered by the Tony’s Marker.

What is GGID?

It is a unique number that identifies each player/game combination – it changes for every game and for every player.  It is required under special circumstances which will be explored.

Competition Fees

Competition fees will be deducted from your BRS Purse as you book your tee time, which must have sufficient credit.  Prize winnings will be credited to your Purse.  Cancellations made after 4am on the morning of the comp will not refunded.

FAQ:  Scoring Options with BRS (v5)

BEST OPTIONS

1.        1. Pair up with another person who is scoring with the BRS app

Both players enter and certify their scores on the app.  It is by far the easiest way.

Remember to SAVE scores for each hole and after each change.

2.        2. A group of three all using the BRS app

A marks B, B marks C, C marks A.  They enter and certify their scores using the app.

USING LEGACY SCORECARDS

Generic “green fee player” cards are available.  They will not be personalised with a player’s name, playing handicap and without nominating given “shots” hole by hole.

3.        3. Two, three or four players all using cards

After marking and certifying scores, each player enters their certified scores in the Club Score Input Terminal, just as they do in the old system (i.e. Simple Golf).

4.        4. When there is an odd pairing of a BRS app user and card user

The BRS app user marks the card user, certifies their scores which are referred to in the app as the card user’s “official scores”.

The card user marks the BRS app user on the card and then enters the app user’s certified scores into the Club Score Input Terminal.

CLUB SCORE INPUT TERMINAL

The Club Score Input Terminal can be used by a player registered in an active competition (Round) to enter their certified scores, just like the old system (i.e. Simple Golf).  The player identifies themselves with their Golflink number and they must also nominate their attestor.  https://kiosk.golfgenius.com/ggid/wjz2cg/login/cdh-number

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

5.        5. If a player using the app prematurely retires from the round

Players can reassign markers by all exiting the event, including the retiring player who must also SIGN OUT of the BRS Golf app in order to de-select their marker.  The remaining players then re-enter the event and select a new marker.  The “official scores” entered by the previous marker will be re-assigned to the new marker. Continue entering scores for upcoming holes.

6.        6. If you are registered to play AND you move to another group AND there is no          one in the Office to transfer you in the tee sheet.

The BRS app knows you are playing, so you can use the app to keep your own scores.

The app thinks you are playing in your previous group, so you cannot use it to mark anyone in the new group.

Take a card to enable someone in the new group to mark your scores.

Players in the group mark one another and one player marks your card as an extra.

At the end of the round, certify your scores with your marker then enter your certified scores into the Club Score Input Terminal.

7.        7. If you are not registered to play in the competition.  (The cutoff time for                  registering in the BRS timesheet is 4am on the day of the competition).

The BRS app does not know you are playing, so you cannot use the app to record your scores nor mark anyone.

Take a card to enable someone in the group to mark your scores.

Players in the group mark one another and one player marks your card as an extra.

At the end of the round, certify the scores with your marker,

Someone in the office MUST OFFICIALLY add you to your playing group and you MUST PAY the comp fee.

Then you can enter your certified scores into the Club Score Input Terminal.
